Investor need
Earn a regular income while being protected from the volatility of equity and bond markets and/or increase the liquidity (access to your money) of your portfolio
How the portfolio aims to achieve this
- Offer a higher return than a money market fund (considering costs and taxes) at a slightly higher volatility while preserving capital by investing actively across all asset classes
- The investment manager has substantial flexibility to adjust the asset allocation to meet the investment objective of low-volatility dividend and income returns
Risk exposure
The market risk of the underlying investments is hedged out as much as possible, or alternatively, the portfolio will hold secure instruments that minimise exposure to excessive market fluctuations
Asset allocation
- Cash, listed government and corporate bonds, listed shares, listed preference shares, listed convertible equities, listed derivatives
- Both interest-bearing and dividend-yielding assets will generally be floating in nature to minimise duration risk (the risk of fluctuating interest rates)
- The portfolio may from time to time also invest in participatory interests
